Chapel Hill Transit
Chapel Hill Transit provides fare-free bus service between the University, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro. View all routes and schedules and track buses in real time. The U route and RU route circulate the University campus on weekdays every 10 to 15 minutes, with adjusted service during weekends and University academic breaks.
Park-and-Ride
Local Park-and-Rides are served by fare-free Chapel Hill Transit buses. Parking permits are required in the lots.
Annual/academic year permit
- Register for CAP to obtain a virtual permit.
- University permit prices are based on employee/student status.
Daily/weekly permit
- Use ParkMobile for a virtual daily permit.
- Use Online Services to print a daily/weekly permit.
- CAP benefits are not provided with daily/weekly permits.
Park-and-Ride permits for UNC-Chapel Hill lots are virtual. University permits must be printed when parking in Town of Chapel Hill lots (Eubanks Road, Jones Ferry, and Southern Village lots).
- Print permit at home/office through Online Services.
- Request permit for pickup from Transportation and Parking.
The University permits above are valid in all lots; Town permits are only valid in Town lots. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. University Park-and-Ride lots may only be used for commuting to campus and are not intended for vehicle storage or to access nearby buildings.
Commuter Alternative Program
The Commuter Alternative Program rewards faculty, staff and students who choose to take the bus, join a rideshare, ride a bike, or walk to campus. Benefits include a Discount Card, prize drawings, and Commuter News monthly e-newsletter. Register for CAP to enjoy the commuter benefits.
Safe Ride
Safe Ride is a late night bus that runs Thursday – Saturday from 11:00 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. These Chapel Hill Transit buses provide services from Franklin Street down MLK, Jr. Boulevard, NC 54 East and Smith Level Road.
